Steve Kelly inspirational story
Hi,
Steve Kelly, a 1985 Air Force Academy graduate, shared his inspirational story recently with LPN sports reporter John Walk. The Academy has been given permission to share the link to the inspirational story, which was Episode 42 of the “Inspirational Athletes” podcast.
A two-sport star for the Blue Streaks, the 1981 Manheim Township graduate went on to play football at Air Force in the early 1980s. He then hung up his cleats to become an Air Force helicopter pilot for 12 years before transitioning to a career as a commercial airline pilot.
Kelly later received a health scare in 2008 when he was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, and ensuing surgery to remove the cancer resulted in him losing a large percentage of function in his left leg, and forcing him to give up his aviation career. However, Kelly soon found another calling on the bike as a para-cyclist.
Now making his home in Utah, Kelly was back home for a quick visit when he dropped by the LNP studios to share his remarkable story on this week’s Inspirational Athletes podcast.
Thanks
